Polunski Unit Inmates Handmade Guitar for Willie

 —  May 14, 2015 — 14 Comments

Take a look at what some of the inmates at the Polunski Unit in Livingston,TX made for Willie. The letter that came with the handmade guitar said, “I know you’ll probably never play it but I am satisfied in my heart that I did the best I could do with what I had to work with.” We couldn’t agree with him more. This guitar is an absolute work of art. Incredible, a job well done Ketch, Joey and Ricky. Every single hour you spent on it is appreciated.
What an honor. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

  1. I deeply admire the handiwork of these men. Willie inspires us all.

  2. Wow..A lot of Love, Pride, Craftsmanship went into that guitar. ( Pick guard needed) 🙂

  3. Man, that is really something. As I scour the tour dates desperately trying to figure out a way get to my first Willie Nelson performance, seeing that incredible guitar and case proves how deeply Willie’s music gets inside people.

  4. That’s very impressive except for one small detail. Polunsky death row prisoners live in solitary confinement and have no access to either the materials or the tools that would make such a guitar (or any guitar) possible. There may be a workshop in Polunsky where it could have been made, but it was NOT on death row. Polunsky prisoners know that, so the question is: why claim that it was made on death row.

    • Wait. Wait. Wait. Are you suggesting that convicted felons are lying? Imagine that. Where is their integrity?

    • My infamous, scizophrenic NAVY vet brother, Scott Panetti, is on death row at Polunsky in Livingston, TX. When I go to see him there are wood made products for sale. In fact, I have beautiful jewelry boxes at home, that inmates have made. Its true my brother has been tortued for about 20 years in solitary confinement, gased and left naked in a cell, etc. Some inmates are allowed to do wood work there though. Not sure why they get the privlage but its made and SOLD at the torture center called Pokunsky.

    • The Polunsky unit is home to The Texas Death Row “DR”, we also have General Population “GP” inmates that have cell mates and some are allowed to work and earn the opportunity to work in the craft shop.

Catana: Perhaps there is a reason for the name of a guitar company listed in the paper work. Think that the fraud squad is planning on opening a business when they get out, and this sounded like a better story to ensure that it got to Willie?

  6. It would be pretty cool to do a song on that guitar and dedicate the proceeds to prison reform imho

  7. Beautiful guitar guys! I wonder if these guys will be building any guitars for non-celebrities. That would be very cool! I’m glad for Mr. Nelson. It suits him well! :^) Really cool!

some of the country’s best artists are in prison God bless them and prayers for release of innocent and release of the souls of guilty

  9. Catana because most ppl Consider the Allan B. Polunsky Unit Texas Death Row not Just the building that DR Inmates are housed on.

  10. A beautiful work of art, rising from the darkness of deathrow. This is a true phoenix, and I am certain many other folks would like to hear a sound clip of it being played.
