“West is just a few miles from my hometown of Abbott. I was born and raised here and it was my backyard growing up. This is my community. These friends and neighbors have always been and are still a part of my life. My heart is praying for the community that we call home.” – Willie Nelson

Proceeds from Willie Nelson’s previously scheduled performance at The Backyard in Austin, TX on April 28th will now benefit the West Volunteer Fire Department.  Please go to WillieNelson.com for updates on how you can help through donations of goods and funds, including making blood donations to the Red Cross for West, Texas.

  1. As a firefighter and a life-long Willie-fan (have seen him and family play many times at The Orleans in Vegas) I’m touched by Willie’s words to those who have given the ultimate sacrifice. I hope to see you when you visit Sylvania, Ohio this summer. You are an American icon.

    Peace, love, empathy,

  2. You’re a real class act Willie, the world needs more people like you.

People are people. There is no excuse for violence. If you don’t like something, fix it without killing your parents, grandparents, siblings, friends, neighbors, and fellow citizens. If any of them (which includes everybody) is in need, help them… don’t ignore them. It is only chance that it is they who are injured and not you.

Thanks for all you have done for the Abbott/West area, I know the area means a lot to you, just as it did to my Dad, and our family, and you have many friends that have been hurt by this tragedy. God bless you and Bobbie for all you do. The people who live in this area will need lots of help and support in the coming months

  5. thank you Mr Nelson for caring about Texas and Happy Birthday on the 30th

  6. God bless you Willie!!

  7. Thanks Willie! You are a man with a huge heart. I have to live in Tennessee, but the East and Central Texas is where my heart lives. I am a 24 year veteran firefighter and grew up in the same area. My family and friends since childhood in Elgin and also in Kerr county. Yesterday broke my heart.

  8. God bless you Willie although I would not expect anything less from you. You are Texas as much as Texas is you it can’t be explained to someone who isn’t from this great state we call home. It is what we do what our parents did and their parents. Texans take care of Texans. Long live the Republic.

  9. Willie,
You always do what is right. This world is a lot better place with you and people like you in it. Thanks for all you do and have always done. We are all praying for the West TX people and a swift recovery from this latest disaster

    Thank You

  11. You promised ‘updates on how you can help through donations of goods and funds, including making blood donations to the Red Cross for West, Texas.’
There is NO information on your site as to how to donate blood or anything else…
As it is, unless you are near Waco or parts north of there, no location is listed for any blood centers taking donations for West, and the Red Cross seems to be a botched site itself for giving information.

  12. Willie I hope you don’t view this as rude, but am wondering that if you get an abundant amount of donations that if you can help my 35 year old son, who has been cooped up in my apartment and i have pushed out to the parking lot all of 4 seasons now in spite of the fact that we live down the street from a state park that many people go to from around the world simply because neither of us can manage to get his borrowed undersized wheelchair any further away down hill from us, his upper spine is going to ruin and so are his knees and they have gotten progressively very bad due to doctor neglect and a huge waste of his time toward getting anything done on a state provided insurance called CMSP which provides for not much to begin with and as it stands he is in danger of paralysis but the emotional problems of being cooped up are one of the culprits of his lack of ability to heal and keep from getting worse. a chiropractor that i barely afforded to get him to on my 800 dollars per mth diagnosed theater legs, so what he needs is a mobility chair with a floor in front of him to extend is legs out in front of him and i hope you can understand that it stands to reason that i cry every day for his pain and lack of ability to anything normal, no one wants to help, no one at all- I am all he has …what is worse is that he has 2 little ones that miss him and he misses them terribly too,…and hey Willie keep being your extra cool self!;Yvonne

  13. You are a stand-up guy and Texas is lucky to have you. May you have a blessed birthday.

  15. God Bless the first responders, survivors and citizens of West. Let’s put this years 4th over the top, always a great event –the dedication to the fire dept. means

  16. I think it is awesome that you are doing this and hope you have a great turnout in Austin. I’m also a vol fireman used to live in Austin Texas.
